What’s changed then?

Well I guess you could put obesity in children down to many contributing factors such as:

Increased availability of fast and processed foods

Watching too much TV

Spending spare time playing computer or video games

I once read that you cannot give a child under the age of ten responsibility. I have always kept this in mind and feel it to be wholly true.

What we don’t seem to be seeing here is headlines that tell the truth about our obese children.

That truth quite plainly and simply has to be parents MUST take responsibility for their children and responsibility for the food and exercise that their children have. If you are presented with an overweight or obese child, the child has been allowed to become obese by their parents.

If I allowed my son or daughter to eat all the wrong foods in great quantities and have no exercise at all, I would not be surprised if one or both became overweight. If I persisted in allowing their unhealthy lifestyle to proceed, I would be responsible for one or both of them becoming obese.

Children are children and for that reason have to be encouraged and taught about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Unless a child has been diagnosed by a General Practitioner to having a medical condition which causes weight gain, a parent has to take responsibility for their child being overweight or obese.
